Every product has a back story. But few weave ancient traditions and modern manufacturing processes while also addressing issues of social responsibility.
Yet that’s exactly what materials manufacturer 3form accomplished with its Full Circle line of Varia Ecoresin panels. Having traveled to Nepal looking for regionally inspired materials, 3form designers partnered with Nepalese artisans near Kathmandu to create beautifully hand-crafted paper strips that are encapsulated in resin panels, called Fray, that positively impact in the local community.
Specifically, 3form linked up with local entrepreneur Lhakpa Sherpa, who wanted to help unmarried women in the area develop a craft to provide for themselves and for their future families by reopening an old papermaking workshop that had been closed during political unrest. Through 3form’s Full Circle program, the papermaking workshop provides above-market wages, healthcare, and free college courses in the morning.
3form sums things up beautifully on its website: “The beauty of the paper strips encapsulated in Varia Ecoresin are more than a design, they are the effort of a people who now have a brighter future in Nepal.”
