Dwell on Design NY, curated by the editors of Dwell magazine, debuts at 82 Mercer in SoHo on Oct. 9–11 with 5,000 members of the design elite gathering for innovative installations and onstage discussions centering on contract design, public space, urban infrastructure, and more.
New York City is a design laboratory— one that constantly reinvents its landscape while embracing new ideas and possibilities. Dwell on Design NY (DODNY) shares that ethos as it upends the standard “design show” format by constructing a forum for unique ideas and a fresh point-of-view. Dwell on Design NY will dive deep with commercial designers, architects, manufacturers and you. Together, we’ll evaluate design, solve problems and innovate through research, technology, and ingenuity.
At the core of this discourse are “hot buttons” that are rapidly evolving within the world of contract design:
- Learning spaces
- Hospitality venues
- Public spaces
- Urban Infrastructure
The first two days of the event will target design professionals. The last day will be open to the public. For the public, a 1 day pass is $25, $15 for students. Visit dwellondesign.com for more info.
Some of the highlights include a keynote address by Daniel Libeskind, 20 design installations, and home tours of some of New York’s coolest residences.
Stephen will be part of the Saturday public session and will deliver a presentation at noon entitled “Meet the Maker.” The hourlong talk will introduce Cool Spaces! and describe Stephen’s seven-year odyssey of getting the show on air, including the circumstances of pitching, getting the show greenlit and finally realizing the show. This AIA-sponsored presentation is approved for professional education credit.
